Lando Norris Tops Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has beaten Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five grands prix.
The McLaren driver just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the closing stages of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from his teammate by one point after taking the win in Mexico City recently, topped the Melbourne-born driver by a mere 0.023s.
Before then, Oscar Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before the sprint shootout set to begin at 18:30 GMT.
Max Verstappen, the only other driver in realistic title contention, lying with a 36-point deficit Norris, was classified in 17th place as his Red Bull team followed a alternative strategy.
Verstappen's team-mate the Japanese driver was the only driver to have an incident, albeit lightly, when he spun at corner four soon after starting.
Tsunoda slid over the track edges before sliding over the run-off area, and was fortunate to get away with just a minor contact of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also lost it, at the very end of the practice, turning around through the high-speed Mergulho turn before the last turn on to the pit straight.
Hamilton ended the session in 19th, one place behind team-mate Charles Leclerc.
Norris and Piastri were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds slower than the Australian's time.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and the Alpine of Pierre Gasly and Williams' Carlos Sainz.
